Yoga for Pregnancy
& Birth
Take
time out for you and your baby with this easy-to-follow and informative
program. It is written by and features pre-natal yoga teacher Katie
Brown, who was seven months pregnant with her second child when this
DVD was filmed. Katie guides you through a relaxation, a baby bonding
practice and two routines which are suitable for every stage of
pregnancy.
Yoga
is one of the best and safest forms of exercise for new mums. It
doesn't matter if you've never done Yoga before - you'll still feel the
benefits. Yoga helps to release stress and symptoms associated with
pregnancy. It also encourages your body to prepare for labour. It can
deepen the bond with your unborn baby and help your body recover after
childbirth. The DVD, which runs for approximately 85 minutes, features
unique sections such as a baby bonding relaxation and a guide to all
prospective mums (and dads) explaining how they can use Yoga and
massage to help with childbirth.

Baby Bliss
The
benefits of baby yoga
are endless and it is great for parents, grandparents and carers alike.
With stimulating eye contact baby yoga helps nurture a greater
responsiveness and deeper bonding between carer and baby, whilst on a
physiological level it is stimulating all the systems within the baby’s
body simultaneously. Baby yoga also helps the parent or carer feel more
confident and involved with the child.
'Baby
Bliss' demonstrates
baby yoga and massage. There are many 'Mother and Baby' Yoga DVD's on
the market, (which offer post natal yoga for the mums with the baby
present), but 'Baby Bliss' is unique because it is not post natal yoga,
it is specifically for the baby.
Included
within the DVD are three unique sequences.
Baby yoga, Baby yoga and Massage, and Playtime yoga for more active
older babies.

Anatomy and Asana: Preventing Yoga Injuries by Susi
Hately Aldous
Anatomy and Asana offers an easy and successful method to learn
anatomy and its relationship to yoga in a way that helps prevent
injuries. It is written by a certified yoga teacher with a diverse
background in kinesiology, ergonomics, and physical rehabilitation.
Anatomy and Asana answers many practical questions that are often
asked by yoga students – about back pain, knee pain, and shoulder pain;
about clenching the butt in back bends, and how to release the
hamstrings or prevent hamstring tearing in forward bends. The book
combines hands-on information with illuminating drawings, stories, and
helpful tips to show you how to practice yoga with less pain. It informs
without overwhelming the reader with too much information.
Anatomy and Asana is divided into four parts: basics of anatomy;
language of anatomy and movement; the eight essential principles of
movement as they relate to yoga; and application of these principles to
specific groups of yoga asanas: standing poses, back bends, forward
bends, twists, and inversions. For each group, the book shows where
there is a tendency for injury and what you can do to instill space in
your body and thereby prevent injury from occurring.

A
Guide to purchasing the right yoga DVD from Real Bodywork!
-
First
figure out what level you are at: beginner,
intermediate or advanced yoga practitioner. This will help to narrow
down what yoga DVD you will consider.
-
Next
decide if you prefer the beauty of an outdoor
environment, or the focus of an indoor environment. Watching a teacher
filmed indoors can be less distracting, but practicing to a yoga DVD
set in a beautiful natural surrounding can also be inspiring. There is
no right or wrong here.
-
Watch a
few minutes of the yoga DVD sample clip.
You should enjoy the teacher's voice, since you will primarily be
listening to them speak while you practice yoga.
-
Look at
the length of the yoga DVD. A good yoga DVD
should be at least 3 hours long, and offer multiple routines to choose
from so that you can vary your practice to fit your mood.
-
Finally,
decide how much guidance you want during
the routine.
Each yoga DVD
is different, some offering detailed
pose instructions throughout the sequence. This can be great in the
beginning, but tedious later on when you already know the correct
positioning. Some yoga DVDs don't have much detailed instruction, which
is nice when you want to flow with the routine, but doesn't help you to
do the yoga techniques correctly.
We have
addressed this issue: every yoga DVD that
we offer has a pose guide section that goes over each pose in detail,
so you don't have to keep hearing the detailed guidance during the main
sequences, and you can just flow and enjoy!

Yoga
for the Core: Finding
Stability in an Unstable Environment by Suzette
O’Byrne
The
core itself is the root of our being, the center of our balance, and in
a healthy body is also the root of our movements. Many of us know how
to train the “outer core” but are disconnected from our “inner core.”
By learning how to reconnect to your inner core, you can
prevent/recover from injuries, improve your posture, enhance athletic
performance and create more efficient movement patterns.
In
this book you will learn: # how to cultivate your core # the difference
between the inner and outer core # how to develop strength and ease in
both # how to improve pelvic stability # the importance of
diaphragmatic movement to stability of the core # the difference
between Pilates and yoga breathing # the connection between poor core
stability and injury # how to recover from injury by improving core
stability # practices that will progressively stabilize and strengthen
your core.

The Anatomy
of Pilates by Paul Massey
Created
by Joseph Pilates during the early 20th century, Pilates is used by
millions today to improve their physical and mental well-being. Much of
its appeal lies in its simple, low-impact approach, which is ideal for
injury prevention, rehabilitation, and general physical health. Based
on a series of precise movements and the employment of equipment such
as rubber balls and exercise bands, Pilates emphasizes concentration,
control, alignment, core stability, and proper breathing.
The Anatomy of Pilates shows what
actually happens to the body’s muscles and joints during Pilates
exercises. Each two-page spread features detailed anatomical
illustrations of an exercise (with muscle actions highlighted in red),
a detailed description of the exercise and its objectives, the
particular breathing pattern to be used, a list of the specific muscles
being worked, visualization techniques, complementary exercises, and
more. The Anatomy of Pilates is an accessible,
authoritative guide for current and prospective teachers of Pilates,
practitioners at all skill levels, physical therapists, and other
health professionals.
