Beginning & Advanced Myofascial Release

http://www.realbodywork.com

2000

This is the indirect myofascial release which is the gentle fascia stretching as opposed to direct MFR of Art Riggs. This is an exceptional reference to MFR founded on theory by John Barnes.

The 'beginning' DVD explores the basic anatomy & physiology of fascia, how to perform Myofascial Release, releasing the superficial fascia, skin rolling, scar release techniques, leg and arm pulls, cross handed stretches, and transverse diaphragm releases. The 'advanced' DVD shows how to evaluate postural distortions, and use Myofascial Release to bring the body into balance. Also  use other techniques such as the Rebound technique, Cross fiber friction, forearm strokes, and Muscle Energy Technique in the context of a Myofascial treatment. A summary is given at the end of each section.

Tom Myers

The first 2 series describe the concept of Anatomy Trains & the myofascial meridians. Tom Myers provide excellent lecture on fascia, the development of human body and tensegrity. The technique series show technique applied on each of the myofascial line: superficial back line, superficial front line, lateral line and spiral line. There are also 4 additional lines

The demonstration is designed to mimic classroom or one-to-one tutorial. The technique is demonstrated and a student then perform it with feedback from the client. This is probably the closest structural integration technique as Rolfing. Definitely an excellent resource, can be used after completing Art Riggs DVD.

Aaron L. Mattes (Lance A. Mattes)

Active Isolated Stretching

http://www.stretchingusa.com

1998

This 45 mins video contains Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) techniques developed by Aaron Mattes. AIS attempts to isolate particular muscle and stretching the muscle for 1-2 seconds as opposed to the conventional prolonged 10-60 seconds. The argument is prolonged static stretching actually decreases the blood flow within the tissue creating localized ischemia and lactic acid buildup. Stretches up to 2 seconds allows the target muscle to optimally lengthen without triggering the protective stretch reflex and subsequent reciprocal antagonistic muscle contraction.  Lance Mattes clearly demonstrates self stretching techniques for neck & shoulder, arm & hand, leg & foot. The techniques. Useful for everyone, therapists, sports athlete, and patient. This book is a great companion to Aaron Mattes' book.

John Upledger

Craniosacral Therapy Series

http://www.upledger.com/

From the master himself John Upledger showing craniosacral therapy. There are several series: classroom and studio series. They are filmed in the 1980s and just recently made into DVDs, so quality of picture is not so good. Seeing the master works is remarkable. The 10 step protocol is the basic for CST, the somatoemotional release is quite shocking so be prepare.

Ralph R. Stephens

Seated Therapeutic Massage. Vol. I, II & III

This 3 series shows good techniques for remedial massage applied on seated position. There's a bit of promotion stuff on the first video. Ralph likes to talk a lot. The format is introduction to the anatomy of the muscles, and shown on a guy with picture of the muscles drawn on his skin. Then techniques described and demonstrated. Drawing the muscle on skin sometimes can be more useful than sophisticated computer graphics.
