Product Description

Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back and Hip Pain – A Self-Treatment Workbook by Sharon Sauer CMTPT, LMT, and Mary Biancalana CMTPT

This book presents Sauer’s trigger point therapy protocols for lumbar, buttock, and ilio-sacral pain. These gentle techniques are easy to learn and administer at home and include compression, stretching, and range of motion exercises for the muscles that refer pain to the lower back and hip areas.

Working closely with trigger point pioneers Janet Travell and David Simons, Sharon Sauer developed a range of trigger point therapy treatment protocols for many areas of the body. This book presents her protocols for lumbar, buttock, and ilio-sacral pain. These gentle techniques are easy to learn and administer at home. They include compression, stretching, and range of motion exercises for the muscles that refer pain to the lower back and hip areas. The book includes an overview of myofascial trigger point therapy, describing the basic process of treatment. It also includes an index of all pain and dysfunction symptoms pertaining to the hip and lower back, including pain, numbness, weakness, or restricted range of motion in specific areas, which will enable readers to find the muscles most likely to be the cause of the specific symptoms presented. Although the book is geared for readers wishing to use the techniques for self-care, one chapter details how health care professionals can add these techniques to their practices.

David G. Simons, M.D., co-author of Travell & Simons’ Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction — The Trigger Point Manual says that
“Myofascial trigger points are…commonly overlooked because the initial training of so few medical practitioners includes adequate instruction in the identification and treatment of myofascial trigger points.”

“Highly recommended” – David G. Simons, M.D.

“The leading myotherapist in the field” – Andrew A. Fischer, M.D.

Sharon Sauer, CMTPT, LMT, NCBTMB, an expert at treating chronic and acute soft-tissue pain, is one of the leading myofascial trigger point therapists (MTPT) in the field, with more than twenty-two years of experience in private practice. Sauer graduated from the Bonnie Prudden School of Physical Fitness and Myotherapy in 1984. In 1986, she became the first MTPT to practice in Chicago. She has made significant contributions to the field of MTPT, most notably the incorporation of self-care training into the treatment protocols for myofascial pain and dysfunction. Sauer has been refining and expanding upon the ground-breaking efforts of her mentor Janet Travell. In 2004, Sauer chaired the annual convention of the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists. Sharon has taught trigger point management to doctors, osteopaths, dentists, physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and other health care practitioners.
