Dr. Joe Muscolino is presenting this workshop for learning muscles by building them in clay, which is the ultimate kinesthetic experience for deepening the knowledge of the skeletal muscles of pelvic tilt. First we review the muscles of anterior and posterior tilt, as well as the muscles of lateral tilt (pelvic depression and elevation). We also look at the larger picture of the kinesiology of the region, discussing the relationship between pelvic tilts and spinal postures and motion of the thighs, applying these concepts to musculoskeletal conditions of the area. We then spend the entire rest of the workshop building the muscles of pelvic tilt in clay and applying them to the skeleton, with an emphasis on mover and antagonist muscle groups of each action. Only Pro models Zahourek Maniken® Anatomy in Clay® Skeletons are used. There are two students per skeleton, so everyone has the opportunity to make every muscle, and workshops are kept to 16 people for maximal personal supervision by Joe.
We begin with a brief 1-hour review of the muscles and kinesiology of the neck and shoulder girdle region, with clinical applications to musculoskeletal conditions that occur with muscular imbalances. We then spend the entire rest of the workshop building the muscles of this region in clay and applying them to the skeleton, with an emphasis on mover and antagonist muscle groups of each action. Only Pro models Zahourek Maniken® Anatomy in Clay® Skeletons are used. There are two students per skeleton, so everyone has the opportunity to make every muscle, and workshops are kept to 16 people for maximal personal supervision by Joe. THE MIND DOES NOT FORGET WHAT THE HANDS HAVE LEARNED! ™ Palpation as an Assessment Tool for Orthopedic Massage
Instead of teaching rote palpation routines that need to be memorized, Dr. Muscolino teaches by explaining the foundational concepts of muscle palpation and then applying these concepts to specific muscles of the body. The emphasis is always on understanding instead of memorization!
The first day will cover body mechanics for deep tissue work and stretching for the neck, including: How to use your core to easily perform deep work to the neck, How to safely massage the musculature of the anterior neck, and How to perform multiplane stretching of the neck. The second day covers assessment of pathologic conditions of the cervical spine and advanced stretching techniques and how to safely perform joint mobilisation.
Clinical Orthopedic Massage Therapy for the Lower Back & Pelvis
The first day will cover body mechanics for deep tissue work, muscle palpation assessment, orthopedic assessment testing of the lumbar spine, and stretching for the lower back and pelvis. The second day focuses on advanced stretching, assessment of the sacroiliac joint, and how to safely perform joint mobilisation. This workshop delivers 16 hours of instruction over 2 days from 9 AM to 6 PM.
Advanced Assessment & Joint Mobilisation of the Spine
This workshop covers motion palpation and joint mobilisation of the entire spine (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar) as well as the sacroiliac joint and rib cage. Prerequisite: Completion of Clinical Orthopedic Massage Therapy (COMT) of either the neck or lower back/pelvis workshop. The essence of a joint mobilization is to stretch the intrinsic tissues of the joint (ligaments, joint capsules, short deep muscles) by stabilizing the proximal bone and then introducing a gradual gentle-but-firm stretch force to the distal bone. A very valuable technique! This workshop delivers 8 hours of instruction from 9 AM to 6 PM.

Testimonials "I just came back from the course on the Gold Coast and it was the best course by far I have ever attended." Scott K., Central Coast, NSW. "Joe Muscolino is a master of his profession! His broad knowledge on the human body and extensive experience made the workshops interesting and engaging. The topics were delivered with enthusiasm and great clarity. His instructions are easy to follow and understand and he always had time to check on everyone's hands-on work. Joe is definitely one of the most genuine teachers I've come across. I would highly recommend his workshops to any body-worker. I, myself, can't wait for the next one!" Zuzana G., North Sydney, NSW. "Joe has inspired me to dig deeper into the knowledge I already have and to pursue more information about the body in further study. I have been to many courses in the past which were unable to do more than pass on a few interesting techniques, many of which were not easy for the therapist to perform unless they were a 6 foot male with arms twice the length of mine. It is a true gift to be able to inspire your students, especially those who have been in the field for a few years and are unaccustomed to learning. The class challenged me and my way of thinking without belittling the areas I am weak in. The content was thorough yet simple to understand with Joe's wonderful way of teaching. His immense technical knowledge of the body has shown me how effective we can be as therapists if we apply all of the resources that are available to us." Anita S., Hornsby, NSW. "Joe Muscolino is an excellent teacher. He is extremely knowledgeable, encouraging, explains things in a way you can understand, makes good use of humour and anecdotes and seems on all accounts to be an all round good guy too! The courses themselves are a perfect mix of theory, demonstration and practice. Whether you are wanting a refresher or to learn new techniques, I could not recommend his courses highly enough to massage therapists who want to improve their skills in order to best take care of their clients and themselves." Jemma G., Hobart, Tasmania "After having read one of Joe's books, I was encouraged to attend his workshops for deep tissue massage, stretching and joint mobilisation for the neck and low back & pelvis. I had been trying to find a workshop like this to update and add to my skills for some time. Joe's teaching method is methodical, full of valuable information, with hands on training and teaching. Bad postural and massage habits I had developed were corrected making my massage techniques more effective with less effort. There was a very friendly and open atmosphere, and Joe was open to seeing the students techniques as well. The education was invaluable and worth every cent. I would highly recommend Joe's workshops to anyone wanting to improve and add more to their skills. I look forward to future workshops." Lauren S., Balmain, NSW. "I was impressed with the workshops for a number of reasons - firstly, each point was clear, easy to understand and well supported with factual reason. Secondly, it was very hands-on so that each point was reinforced immediately with Joe getting to each table to fine-tune or compliment. Finally, Joe's persona was engaging, friendly and thoroughly authoritative. I learnt a number of new treatment techniques and looked at ones I have used for some time from a different angle. All well worthwhile." Julian W., Frankston, Victoria. “I can personally tell you his two-day neck workshop was a wealth of information and has convinced me to work more deeply on this region, which is a culprit for many annoying symptoms in lives of our clients.” Kay S., Hobart, Tasmania.
