LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE THERAPY: BODY
The lymphatic system is the frontline in the
body's defense mechanism. It is responsible for the removal of
interstitial fluid from tissues it absorbs and transports fatty
acids and fats to the circulatory system, it transports immune cells
to and from the lymph nodes in to the bone.
Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic
system does not have a "pump". The lymph system depends on intrinsic
contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph
vessels and the movement of skeletal muscles to propel lymph through
the vessels to lymph nodes. Lymphatic drainage massage uses a gentle
pressure and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow.
Expert massage therapist and instructor, Meade
Steadman, discusses how the lymphatic system works and demonstrates
step-by-step how to provide manual lymphatic drainage massage on the
body.
He shows the strokes used in lymphatic massage and
demonstrates a routine for providing manual lymphatic drainage to
promote lymphatic flow and the proper function of this critical
system.
He also discusses the lymphatic system in detail
(including the lymph vessels, organs, and nodes), lymphatic flow,
the benefits and contraindications of lymphatic massage, and
post-treatment recommendations.
