Myofascial Release and Structural Integration

DVDs Selection  | Books Selection

Myofascial release is manual technique for stretching the fascia with the aim to balance the body. Fascia is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone, it is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs, and skeletal structures in our body. Injuries, stress, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia, and the goal of myofascial release is to unlock fascia restriction and restore its balance.  Read about Myofascial Release (see a video of Dr. Ida Rolf)

Heal Your Posture:

A 7-Week Workshop with Mary Bond

Unlike posture improvement programs that promise instant results, HEAL YOUR POSTURE  helps you understand the interrelated habits that underlie poor posture. By spending a week with each of 7 lessons, viewers will learn to re-map long-standing habits of walking, standing, sitting, and breathing that contribute to unhealthy and unattractive posture, as well as to back, neck, jaw and shoulder pain. Each lesson contains simple anatomy to help you understand your body better, ergonomics tips, and exercises that, once learned, can be incorporated into the activities of daily living. Lesson topics include pelvis and hip awareness, healthy breathing, core support, help for flat or rigid feet, shoulder support, jaw and eye tension, spine mobility, and fluid walking. Rather than training muscles into an ideal shape, Mary's approach helps you recreate your best body from within, though awareness. In addition, principles contained in the program will help you get the most from your Pilates, yoga, dance or sports activities.

Strolling under the skin

This is a most inspiring video journey into the architecture of human fascia. It is a 'must have' for every bodyworker and movement therapist.
The world lying beneath the skin remains to be discovered…
…to be discovered by scientists because apart from a few notions evidenced at the beginning of the 20th century, the relationships between the organic structures and how they slide together are poorly understood.
…to be discovered also by the layman, who will come upon a world of colors, changing structures, a world constantly adapting, whose ultimate goal is to provide flexibility, allow movement and maintain equilibrium.

For over half a century, research has neglected these territories. Let’s simply contemplate these structures that are our very make-up… and ponder upon them.
This 28-minutes video from Dr. Jean Claude Guimberteau, a plastic and hand surgeon, shows you the most fascinating images of living fascia. Read more details

Anatomy Trains: Fascial Tensegrity & Myofascial Meridians

The first DVD Fascial Tensegrity introduces the Anatomy Trains concept by taking a tour of the origins and disposition of the fascinating fascial net. We look at its components, its embryology, and its properties in human functioning. By viewing the fascial net as a whole, we see how the body can be seen as a variety of 'tensegrity' structure, where the dynamic interaction among bones, muscles, and the connective tissues produces our stance, movement, and 'attitude'.

The second DVD Myofascial Meridians summarizes the whole Anatomy Trains Myofascial Meridians system. The 'rules of the game' are laid out, as well as each of the 12 myofascial linkages, their components, and relationships in specific detail in a way no ordinary muscle-by-muscle and bone-by-bone anatomy course has ever done.
