Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Treatment is a system of healing from India, which evolved from the Brahmin sages. It focuses on establishing and maintaining balance of the life energies within us, rather than on individual symptoms. It recommends different regimens for different types of people. And it seeks to heal the fragmentation and disorder of the mind-body complex and restore wholeness and harmony. The practice involves balancing the three life energy forces: vata, pitta, and kapha. Vata is the energy of movement; pitta, the energy of digestion; and kapha is the energy of structure. These energy forms are made up of the componenets and combinations of the five great elements: Space, Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Ayurvedic massage incorporates the knowledge of ayurveda and uses warm oils and herbs along the specific energy points to help restore balance to the body. Massage strokes, oils and herbs are selected based on a client's specific needs; hence, each treatment is highly customized. Benefits of ayurvedic massage include vitality, stress reduction, and relaxation, renewed sense of spiritual connection and inner peace. This comprehensive program shows you how to evaluate each client according to the ancient Ayurvedic principles of the doshas. Then you will learn how to combine and apply the ingredients for 21 traditional Ayurvedic treatments including: 7 Oil treatments, 5 Ubtan(paste) treatments, 2 Facial treatments, 1 Ear treatment, 4 Eye treatments, 1 Dry powder treatment and 1 Saffron milk treatment. You will learn traditional Ayurvedic uses for sesame, coconut, castor, mustard & almond oil, as well as ghee, ashwaganda, narayan oil, triphila, and how to make Ubtan paste treatments us ing garbanzo flour, wheat flour, and a variety of other powders and substances. Massage Today Review: Much more than a simple "how to" demonstration, this film gives viewers a basic understanding of Ayurvedic health care and how it can make a profound difference in the well-being of your clients. Karta gives a clear explanation of the concepts of Ayurveda, offering viewers a basic understanding of the doshas (body constitutional types), and how imbalances affect our health. Massage therapists planning to add Ayurvedic treatments to their menu should know the fundamentals of this Indian science, and Karta is an excellent teacher. He makes the treatments and preparations look simple, even when they involve such interesting ingredients as milk, lemon, yogurt, butter and garbanzo flour. All of the treatments shown can be offered in a standard massage room. |
