Anatomy of Movement: Exercises by Blandine
Calais-Germain Andrée Lamotte
In this companion volume to Anatomy of Movement, the authors describe
and illustrate, through hundreds of photographs and drawings, a
comprehensive series of exercises involving the most common movements of
the body.
The exercises were chosen on the basis of their effectiveness and
harmlessness. Some are designed to focus on strengthening a particular
region or muscle group, others the entire body. Each exercise prepares
the body to respond well to the demands of particular movements.
Together they serve as a basis for the more specialized movements
associated with various physical disciplines and therapies. Presentation
follows the sequencing in Anatomy of Movement. For each body region the
authors describe characteristic movements; potential sources of
stiffness or laxity and how to detect, prevent and overcome them; how to
strengthen specific muscles or muscle groups; and how to coordinate
movements. This is followed by "practice pages" on which specific
exercises are demonstrated.
REVIEWS "Anatomy of Movement and Anatomy of Movement: Exercises
describe the bones, muscles and joints, how they move, how to exercise
specific and coordinated parts--with illustrations, photos and text that
make it comprehensible even to someone like me, who's taken nary a class
in anatomy, physiology or kinesiology." —Molly Martin, Pacific Magazine
"For the client who asks for stretches or exercises to do, there is
sure to be something appropriate [here], and the photographs simplify
explanation. The practice pages and coordination exercises offer plenty
of inspiration for movement sessions as well." —Rolf Lines

Musculoskeletal Disorders Healing Methods from
Chinese Medicine, Orthopaedic Medicine and Osteopathy by Alon Marcus
In Musculoskeletal Disorders: Healing Methods from Chinese Medicine,
Orthopaedic Medicine, and Osteopathy acupuncturist and orthopedic
practitioner Alon Marcus shows how a complementary approach to diagnosis
and treatment of these disorders can use acupuncture, manual therapy,
injections, exercise and medications, both Eastern and Western; and that
Chinese medicine can be reconciled with western orthopedic models.
Balancing multiple theoretical approaches and healing paradigms in a
diagnostic and treatment context, Alon Marcus offers a sophisticated
text for practitioners applying these insights.
Alon Marcus received his licensed acupuncturist degree from the
American College of Traditional Chinse Medicine in San Francisco,
California in 1984, and his Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree from
SAMRA University of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles, California in
1986. He also trained in Japan and China, where he served his internship
at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Municipal Hospital in Guangzhou. He
has published numerous articles in both Eastern and Western medical
journals, as well as the book Acute Abdominal Syndromes and
Musculoskeletal Disorders. He has lectured internationally and taught
courses in complementary orthopedics for several years. Dr. Marcus is
currently in private practice in Oakland, California.

Thomas W. Myers.
Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians for Manual and Movement Therapies
http://www.anatomytrains.net
Anatomy Trains is a 'longitudinal' myofascial anatomy,
showing how the muscles are linked in series through the fascial
webbing. Thomas Myers presents his theory on fascia connections in the
human body. It also contains the most up-to-date statement of the topology
and disposition of fascia in general. An accessible and comprehensive
approach to the anatomy and function of the fascial system in the body
combined with a holistic overview of myofascial therapy. Many different
therapists now use myofascial techniques to influence postural change
and pain relief. This book demonstrates exactly how the muscles connect
within the connect tissue to affect posture, compensatory strain, and
pain patterns. The aim is to present scientifically sound and often
complicated material in a way which can be easily learned, understood,
and applied by those who do not necessarily have a scientific
background. ANATOMY TRAINS is written and presented in a style that
allows this new information on the myofascial system to be easily
absorbed by a wide range of readers: from the student, athlete, or
client to the most experienced therapist.

Cranial Sutures: Analysis, Morphology & Manipulative
Strategies by Marc G. Pick
While there is considerable diversity in the forms and styles of
cranial manipulation, all would agree that a thorough understanding of
the sutures of the cranium and face is essential. Yet until now, no one
has given these important structures the attention they deserve.
In this ground-breaking work, the author describes the structure and
motion of the sutures in much greater detail than ever before, showing
with extensive photographic evidence how the bones of the cranium
actually move, and how the practitioner can optimally affect that
movement. Based on many years of experience in both the clinic and
anatomy lab, Dr. Pick’s analysis is supported by over 300 photographs
and illustrations.
Systematically examining each of the sutures, including those of the
face, vault, and base, Dr. Pick brings clarity and precision to these
descriptions. Everyone who touches the head with a therapeutic intent
will learn many valuable lessons from this book. This is likely to become the standard reference on the cranial
sutures for many years to come, and is an essential book for all
practitioners of cranial manipulation.
REVIEWS "There are many other
books on cranial work, but nothing in this class. It is an atlas and a
technique book. In fact, if you read only one book on sutural technique,
this is the one. It is a good introduction for the beginner, interesting
for the intermediate, and pure gold for the advanced craniopath. If
knowledge is power, the chiropractor who reads and studies this text can
do more good than the unitiated can imagine." —Dynamic Chiropractic
"In this superbly illustrated text Marc Pick focuses on the
morphology of the cranial sutures and offers a series of extremely
detailed palpation protocols for evaluation of their status. Indeed the
development of the practitioner’s palpatory skills is a primary
objective of the book, along with the imparting of a clear understanding
of how sutures articulate morphologically. … It is hard to conceive a
more practical text for those who wish to know all there is to know
about how the bones of the head meet and articulate with each other, and
how to palpate these." —Leon Chaitow, Journal of Bodywork and Movement

Robert Fulford, D.O. and the Philosopher Physician
by Zachary Comeaux
Robert Fulford, D.O. (1905-1997) was an important, if enigmatic,
figure in late twentieth-century osteopathy. Trained at the Kansas City
School of Osteopathy and Surgery (class of 1941), he was a strong
believer in the "triune" nature of man---physical, mental, and
spiritual---and the importance of diagnosing and treating the whole
person, not just the physical symptoms.
Dr. Fulford's career was a testament to this ideal, what A.T. Still
called the philosopher physician. In the mid-1940s he studied cranial
osteopathy with William Garner Sutherland and became a lifelong member
(and one-time president) of The Cranial Academy. During the course of a
practice that spanned six decades he explored a wide spectrum of
scientific and philosophical ideas about the basis and mechanics of
life. Nothing was off limits---field theory, Aryuvedic medicine,
biomagnetics, psychological and subtle energy medicine, crystals. Always
he followed Sutherland's advice to "dig on," integrating whatever was
useful into the practice of what he termed "twenty-first century
medicine."
Robert Fulford, D.O. and the Philosopher Physician is both an
intellectual biography and a practical introduction to Dr. Fulford's
methods of diagnosis and treatment. In addition to tracing the principal
figures and ideas that influenced his thought, there are sample
protocols of Fulford's history-taking, physical examination and general
treatments, and exercises for learning to discern the human energy field
("etheric body") and treating with "intention." REVIEWS "This book is a
scholarly but readable treatise designed to advise and inform. It rings
true. I recognize much in the book of the gentle but enquiring man that
I knew. There is no attempt to mystify or deify Fulford. On the
contrary, Zach Comeaux has concentrated on the philosophy rather than
the personality. He explains the concepts clearly, picks up loose ends
and appears genuinely to want to pass on to us everything he knows. True
to the example of Dr. Fulford himself, this is a faithful attempt to
share with his colleagues the osteopathic insights that Zach Comeaux
derived from the privilege of working so closely with this unique and
enigmatic master of osteopathy." —Nicholas Handoll, The Osteopath

Cell Talk, Talking to yourby John E. Upledger, D.O.,
O.M.M In Cell Talk, Dr. Upledger presents the conceptual and
experiential core of his work. By addressing the relationship between
cell activity and consciousness, he strikes at the heart of how living
systems form and heal themselves and, indeed, how organisms with minds
may exist at all. Understanding how cells communicate and how it is
possible to augment their interactions provides us with a new way of
catalyzing cure. Its concepts open new vistas of understanding
therapeutic options and offer an unabashed look at the possibilities of
working with cellular consciousness.
"This is required reading for all those adventurous souls seeking
their paths on the journey of allopathic, holistic, or integrative
caregiving. Can we blend, trust, and listen to the inner wisdom of our
body cells and learn how to better care for our 'celves'? Yes, we can.
Here it is." -Don Ash, P.T., CST-D
"I believe that Dr. Upledger’s approach represents the very best of
the future of modern medicine." - Suzanne Scurlock-Durana, Ms.T.

A Brain is Born Exploring the Birth and Development
of the Central Nervous System by John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M.
Witness the dramatic unfolding of the human form in all its
potential. Join John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M., as he takes you from the
union of sperm and egg through the development of the complex circuitry
that makes up the human brain. You'll learn about birth, growth,
function and dysfunction, and how all these aspects influence physical,
mental, and emotional well-being. For easy reference, he also maps out
the central nervous system and the functions of all its parts. You'll
discover problems that can alter brain and spinal cord development in
each of the first eight weeks of pregnancy, and then monthly right
through delivery. A Brain Is Born details some of the insults and
injuries that can affect the newborn and commonsense ways to avoid them.
Perhaps most importantly, he provides an outline of simple physical
tests that can help determine the status of a baby's nervous system,
including a step-by-step process for treating potential problems through
the use of CranioSacral Therapy and related therapeutic approaches. This
breakthrough book empowers parents with knowledge to help them make
practical decisions concerning the health of their children.
"Dr. John Upledger is a shining start among those brilliant,
dedicated scientists and practitioners who are helping to bring us into
an era of non-toxic medicine that treats causes rather than symptoms of
health problems.” -Berkeley Bedell, Former Member U.S. Congress
“I highly recommend this book to anyone who is inspired to delve more
deeply into the inner frontier of the brain and our potential for
healing.” - Suzanne Scurlock-Durana, Ms.T.
“This is a fascinating book. In it, John Upledger presents detailed
and extensive information about the development, anatomy, and
functioning of the nervous system. Yet he does so in such a clear and
concise way that it reads like an entertaining narrative, making the
information equally available to both clinicians and laypeople.” -

Craniosacral Therapy for Babies and Small Children
by Etienne and Neeto Peirsman Foreword by John E. Upledger
This unique first book shows, through pictures and step-by-step
instructions, how to give a baby or small child a full craniosacral
treatment. The authors approach babies as conscious beings who endure
enormous stress during the birth process. They show how CS therapy can
help restore the correct alignments in babies' bodies, freeing them to
grow and attain their maximum potential without hindrance. The book
focuses on what a trained CS therapist can do to remove the blockages
that often arise during birth. It addresses both hands-on techniques and
awareness of how to interact with a baby and what responses and effects
to expect. Based on the authors’ extensive experience, this guide can
also be used by parents or caregivers interested in knowing what babies
need in order to be whole and healthy, and how to prevent problems —
including hyperactivity and ADD — that could become serious and require
medication later in life.
Etienne Peirsman has been a certified craniosacral therapist for over
fifteen years. He has taught craniosacral therapy at the Multiversity
Amsterdam since 1997 and regularly teaches throughout Belgium, Holland,
and South Africa. Neeto Peirsman is a mother of three and former
pediatric psychiatric assistant who now counsels new mothers on baby
care.

Mind Matters: Psychological Medicine in Holistic
Practice by J.R. Millenson
Mind Matters is a textbook of mind-body medicine written for students
and practitioners of alternative medicine. It brings together in one
coherent volume practical techniques in psychological medicine-what
Plato called "healing with words"-for those wishing to work more deeply
with the emotional and mental aspects of illness.
Mind Matters balances a scientific approach towards health psychology
with humanistic conceptions of medicine as an art. It presents a
rigorous exposition of the theory and practice of health psychology from
the standpoint of natural medicine, one in which the causes of illness
are set in the wide-angled lens of a multicausal, biopsychosocial
orientation. REVIEWS "Mind Matters attempts to make the core concepts of
health psychology and the basic tools of psychotherapy accessible to the
practitioner of natural medicine. While no substitute for a diploma in
counselling or psychotherapy, it does succeed in demystifying psychology
and makes a case that we can do systematically what we are currently
doing haphazardly, and thereby increase our effectiveness."
—Aromatherapy Quarterly
"This book is targeted at students and practitioners of natural
medicine, as well as the general reader, and succeeds in this aim. A
difficult task of merging psychological medicine, which after all takes
its historical and practice roots in the West, with natural (herbal)
medicine has been achieved." —Behaviour, Research & Therapy

Acupuncture Points: Images & Functions by Arnie Lade
An in-depth discussion of the derivation and clinical applications of
hundreds of the most commonly used acupuncture points. 'Images' are the
mental pictures and associations suggested by the Chinese characters
which comprise the names of the points. 'Functions' are the energetic
actions of the points themselves.
In this richly-researched book prepared in consultation with leading
Chinese scholars, the author presents the images and functions,
location, classification, indications and contraindications for each of
the points. An extensive repertory of traditional functions and patterns
with their associated points, organized in table format, enables the
practitioner to move quickly from diagnosis to prescription of
appropriate points.
Also included is a Chinese character dictionary in which various
meanings of the Chinese characters used in the point names are
identified, and different points whose names share the same characters
are noted. An index of points arranged by channel, alphanumeric number,
pinyin and English is provided for easy reference to the points in the
book.

Rheumatology in Chinese Medicine by Gérard
Guillaume Mach Chieu
Rheumatology in Chinese Medicine is now available in a durable
softcover edition. While rheumatological disorders (e.g., joint and
other musculoskeletal pain) are perhaps the most commonly seen problems
in clinics of Chinese medicine, until now there has been no
comprehensive book on this important subject. Rheumatology in Chinese
Medicine is the first of its kind in any language.
The subject is presented in four parts:
# PART ONE lays the groundwork for the traditional Chinese approach
to rheumatology, including a discussion of the makeup of the human
organism and the interaction between movement and the channels. # PART
TWO is a translation of the chapters on painful obstruction (bi) and
lower back pain from one of the best modern Chinese texts on internal
medicine. # PART THREE presents the authors' own approach to
rheumatological disorders, which utilizes many aspects of the modern
French energetic acupuncture models, including barrier and trigger
points. # PART FOUR contains a rich selection of translations from a
dozen premodern classical texts regarding rheumatological disorders.

Chinese Herbal Medicine: Materia Medica (3rd Edition)
Dan Bensky Steve Clavey Erich Stöger with Andrew Gamble Illustrated
by Lilian Lai Bensky
The new 3rd edition of Chinese Herbal Medicine: Materia Medica is
designed to give practitioners the information they need to practice
Chinese herbal medicine with greater understanding and confidence. It
provides a wealth of new information -– more than twice the content of
the previous edition -- and practical insight into more than 530 of the
most commonly used herbs in the Chinese pharmacopoeia.
Drawing from a wide range of sources, both classical and modern, this
edition provides unparalleled perspective and detail that goes far
beyond what is available elsewhere to the Western practitioner. Among
its many features:
# Herbs are grouped in chapters by function, with expanded summaries
and tables for contrast and comparison. Each herb is identified by its
pharmaceutical, pinyin, botanical, and family names, as well as Chinese,
Japanese, Korean, and English common names.
# Key characteristics are provided at the beginning of each entry,
along with dosage, properties, channels entered, and relevant cautions
and contraindications. This provides a quick overview of essential
information.
# Actions and indications are integrated with important combinations
that illustrate the range of an herb’s functions, with references to
appropriate formulas. This presents a more three-dimensional picture of
how each herb is actually used.
# Expanded commentary offers in-depth analysis and places each herb
in its clinical context through rich historical references. The
mechanisms of action underlying important combinations, and comparisons
with similar herbs, provide a broader context for understanding how the
herb can be used with optimal effect.
# A section devoted to nomenclature and preparation describes the
most important methods of processing and preparing each herb, and the
advantages of each method. It also provides information about other
commonly-used names and historical background.
# Safety is an important focus of this edition, with an emphasis on
proper herb identification. Issues concerning standardized products,
desirable qualities, variants, and adulterants are explained for each
herb. There is also extensive information on toxicity, as well as
chemical constituents.
# The utility of this book is enhanced by its wide range of
appendices, among which are color photographs comparing the standard and
adulterant forms of over 20 common herbs; tables of herbs that are
indicated for specific pathologies of the five yin organs; and extensive
cross references of the herbs by taxonomy, pinyin, pharmaceutical name,
and other East Asian languages. There are also comprehensive indices of
both herbs and formulas, as well as a general index.
REVIEWS "The new 3rd edition of Chinese Herbal Medicine: Materia
Medica raises the bar on the practice of herbal medicine in the West.
Its commentaries on individual herbs and their combinations provide a
wealth of practical information previously unavailable in English. The
book is not just informative, it's fun to read." —Charles Chace, L.Ac.
"A vastly improved edition. The commentary, comparisons, and new data
on nomenclature and quality control all add considerably to previous
editions and other versions of the Materia Medica. In particular, the
descriptions of herbal individuality and applications which are rooted
in traditional energetics and classical references are the great
strength of this book." —The Journal of Chinese Medicine

Dragon Rises, Red Bird Flies: Psychology & Chinese
Medicine (Revised Edition) by Leon I. Hammer
Behind the acupuncture, herbal remedies and sophisticated diagnostics
of Chinese medicine lies a “congenial system of healing that embodies
unification of body and mind, spirit and matter, nature and man,
philosophy and reality.” In this comprehensive and ground-breaking
presentation, based on long experience as physician, psychiatrist, and
practitioner of Chinese medicine, Leon Hammer offers a new model for
appreciating the traditional healer’s effective and profound respect for
individual integrity and energetic balance. Explaining, and moving
beyond, the five phase (element) system, he shows that this Eastern
practice is as much a spiritual science as a physical one.
Accessible to the layman, yet a resource for the professional in any
healing art, this book examines the natural energy functions of the
human organism as a key to mental, emotional and spiritual health. It
offers new insight into disease, showing how it is not merely an
invasion from the outside, but rather a byproduct of a person’s
unsuccessful attempt to restore one’s own balance.
REVIEWS "Hammer has plumbed the depths of this most ancient healing
tradition and offered his findings like the master teacher that he is .
. . A major contribution." —Pathways
"Dr. Hammer has brought new light to the depths of Chinese medicine."
—Ted J. Kaptchuk, O.M.D.

Reflexology and Associated Aspects of Health, A
Practitioner's Guide by Adrian Seager
Written in simple language and based on years of private practice
experience, Reflexology and Associated Aspects of Health is aimed at
reflexologists, complementary therapists, and interested laypersons.
Designed as both a practical guide and a reference, the book stresses
the importance of health maintenance over disease management. Beginning
with a discussion of the limitations of mainstream healthcare, the
author then moves into an authoritative analysis of such topics as foot
and ankle loosening, dermatology, nutrition, body energy, chakras and
meridians, hows and whys of research, and treatment of stroke patients.
Adrian Seager is a registered reflexologist and chiropodist who ran
an active private practice in the Bristol area of England from the late
1980s until his retirement in 2003. He was part of the medical team at
NHS Medical Centre in Somerset before becoming regional director, and
later vice president, of the UK branch of the International Institute of
Reflexology, the oldest international reflexology education and training
institute in the West.
Throughout 1998, Seager traveled to several times to Sarajevo,
Bosnia, to carry out the training and qualification of a team of
physiotherapists—the first qualified reflexologists in this eastern
European nation. Since 1997, he has been a member of the Bowen Therapy
Academy of Australia. In 1999, he became a trustee of the Reflexology
Research Trust (a registered charity), and later served as a member of
the Reflexology Forum. Seager has a master's degree in management from
the University of Bath, a teacher's certificate from the University of
London, and holds the International Institute of Reflexology's
Certificate in Clinical Medicine. For his service to reflexology, he was
named an honorary fellow of the ART Register of Advanced Reflexologists
in 1998, and an honorary member of the Association of Reflexologists in
2002.
Seager has appeared on television and radio programs on the BBC, has
published several articles on reflexology in national journals, and has
contributed to an independent video production about reflexology. Though
retired since 2003, Seagar continues to write, give presentations, and
otherwise share his experience and enthusiasm for keeping healthy and
mobile.

The Elements of Skill A Conscious Approach to Learning
Theodore Dimon, Jr.
Why do so many beginners, both children and adults, fail to master
chosen skills? The Elements of Skill was inspired by -- and addresses --
that question with a program based on proven techniques. The book,
written by a renowned practitioner of the Alexander Technique, outlines
an educational system that makes the process of learning a performance
or athletic skill more conscious, and therefore more successful. Its
principles include breaking down a skill into manageable parts, setting
realistic goals, observing mind/body processes, overcoming blocks,
controlling habits, and achieving heightened awareness and self-mastery.
Included are inspiring examples of people who have benefited from the
method.
Theodore Dimon, Ed.D. is Director of the Dimon Institute in New York
City. Dr. Dimon became certified to teach the Alexander Technique in
1983 at the Constructive Teaching Centre in London, England, and
received both his masters and doctorate degrees in Education from
Harvard University. He is the author of The Undivided Self and Anatomy
of the Moving Body.
"In this enlightening book, the author provides a comprehensive
analysis of skilled performance and its acquisition, from a holistic and
functional point of view. Since the book is, in addition, full of
practical advice on the teaching and learning of skills, it will, I
believe, benefit every educator and self-educator who reads it with the
care and attention it deserves." -Israel Scheffler, Director, Philosophy
of Education Research Center, Harvard University

The Undivided Self by Theodore Dimon, Jr.
Outlining the basic principles of the Alexander Technique--the
objective of which is to gain conscious control over one's actions--The
Undivided Self challenges the concept that mind and body are interacting
systems. Once we become aware of damaging patterns, we can learn to
break these habits and establish a new, beneficial approach to health
that will help control and prevent anxiety, pain, and distress.
"A unique and welcome contribution to the published literature on the
work of F. Matthias Alexander." -Walter Carrington, world renowned
teacher of the Alexander Technique; Director, Constructive Teaching
Centre in London

Rosen Method Bodywork, Accessing the Unconscious Through
Touch by Marion Rosen with Susan Brenner In this long-awaited description of the body-centered therapy
developed by Marion Rosen, the reader begins to understand how emotional
and physical ailments can be addressed through the gentle touch of the
Rosen practitioner. Rosen explains how the practitioner identifies
tensions in the body that point to the source of a problem, and how that
awareness guides the healing process. With the help of psychotherapist
Susan Brenner, one of Marion's first students and director of Rosen
Center East, she describes the origins of her method; how people reveal
their emotions in body postures; barriers they set up to love,
self-expression, and intimacy, and how Rosen work enables a client to
move beyond these barriers. Treatments for asthma, migraine headaches,
heart problems weak immune systems, and psychosomatic illnesses are
chronicled. Essay by doctors, psychologists, and Rosen practitioners
describe how this method of touch, words, and acceptance guides their
work, and complete this remarkable tribute to a visionary woman. Author
Biography:
Rosen Method bodywork was developed out of Marion Rosen's 50 years
experience as a physical therapist and health educator. Her unique
approach to bodywork and movement has earned her recognition as a leader
and originator in the field of body-oriented therapies.
In the 1930s, Marion studied breath and relaxation in Munich,
Germany, with Lucy Heyer, who had been trained by Elsa Gindler, a
renowned innovator of body therapies. Licensed in physical therapy, both
in Stockholm and at the Mayo Clinic, Marion developed the Rosen Method
over the course of many years in private practice. Marion's purpose is
to realize a vision of health and well-being by making the benefits of
the Rosen Method widely available to the general public.
"Marion Rosen’s 'power of gentleness' expresses what we’ve all felt
in this universally loved woman. Marion shares with C.G. Jung a deep
respect for the wisdom and self-healing tendencies of both psyche and
body." - Kay Bradway, Jungian analyst and co-founder of the C.G. Jung
Institute, San Francisco
"Marion Rosen’s approach suggests ways of meditation-in-relationship
using skillful touch. It is clearly related to earlier approaches to
emotional healing – notably Reichan work – that allow the person’s
deeper self to emerge by assiting in the dissolution of the “character
armor.” Her book will help the growth of her seminal work and benefit
our problematic world." - From the Foreword by Claudio Naranjo, M.D.,
author of Character and Neurosis: An Integrative View

The Rosen Method of Movement by Marion Rosen & Sue
Brenner
While working as a physical therapist in Oakland in the fifties,
Marion Rosen was asked by several clients how they could prevent aches
and pains and avoid physical therapy treatments. This question inspired
Rosen to begin teaching movement classes in 1956. The Rosen Method of
Movement describes these preventative exercises in detail. Marion Rosen
continued in the next four decades to become, alongside Moshe
Feldenkrais, Milton Trager, Ida Rolf, and Alfred Lowen, one of the makor
progenitors of a system of bodywork, which connects breathing, emotional
responses and body functioning.
Marion Rosen trained in Munich in the 1930’s with Lucy Heyer, one of
a group of therapists giving breathwork and massage to the
psychoanalytic patients of Carl Jung. She studied further in Stockholm
and the United States, and continues to devote much of her time to Rosen
workshops and training in Europe and the United States.
Sue Brenner was a member of the original Rosen Method training group,
which began in 1980. She directs the annual certification intensive
program in the New York area and practices transpersonal therapy in
Berkeley, California. Reviews/Endorsements:
"Marion Rosen’s ‘power of gentleness’ expresses what we’ve all felt
in this universally loved woman. Marion shares with C.G. Jung a deep
respect for the wisdom and self-healing tendencies of both psyche and
body, which is perhaps why so many Jungian analysts seek her help for
their bad backs. This book describes her methods and reflects her
insights." -Kay Bradway, Jungian analyst, co-founder, C.J. Jung

Zero Balancing Touching the Energy of Bone by John Hamwee,
Foreword by Fritz Smith MD FCCAc
This is the first book to describe the well-established and powerful
therapy called Zero Balancing, and to explain how and why it works.
Uniquely, this therapy touches simultaneously the bones and joints of
the boy and the flow of energy through them. Areas of the body where
there is a loss of function or potential, through stress, accident or
habit, may be restored to full vitality. More generally, this is a book
about the anatomy and physiology of energy: where it flows, how it
behaves, and its relationship to the structure of the boy. Whether you
are a health-care practitioner or a client of one of the many
complementary therapies, this book will explain the very foundations of
the use of energy in healing and show how to enhance the effects of any
therapy which involves touch. Author Biography:
John Hamwee was a university lecturer for many years, and a
consultant to a wide range of organizations. By teaching his clients how
to think holistically, he helped many of them resolve difficult and
intractable problems. Since qualifying as an acupuncturist, he has found
that he can help people more by working with energy. He saw how energy
medicine can break through the constraints which prevent people
recognizing and living their full potential. On receiving his first Zero
Balancing session, he realized that this therapy offered scope for even
deeper healing and transformation—to levels that he had never imagined.
He subsequently trained with Fritz Smith, MD, founder of the therapy,
and qualified as a practitioner and teacher of Zero Balancing. He has
his own Zero Balancing and acupuncture practice.

Healing Hip, Joint, and Knee Pain, A Mind-Body Guide to
Recovering from Surgery and Injuries by Kate O'Shea
Studies show that patients who contribute to their own treatment and
recovery fare better in rehabilitation. Tailoring the concept for those
suffering from joint pain, orthopedic psychologist Kate O'Shea draws
from her patients and her own congenital hip problems (she has four
major surgeries by the time she was thirteen) to describe a program for
caring for the emotional and physical body while healing joint pain or
after surgery. Conventional medical care, touch technologically
sophisticated, often ignores the humanity of individuals--patients are
on their own once they are home. Healing Hip, Joint and Knee Pain offers
exercises, breathing techniques, visualization and writing suggestions
for becoming aware emotionally and for enhancing awareness of the
healing joint. Drawing from Rosen work, Feldenkrais, Eutony, and
orthopedic psychologym O'Shea provides the reader with inviting methods
to hasten healing.
Kate S. O'Shea M.A., lives on a houseboat in Sausalito, with her
husband, Herb Isenberg, their two dogs, and two cats.
"How carelessly and often roughly we use our bodies, for the most
part--and how lacking we are in understanding what they are trying to
tell us. Healing Hip, Joint and Knee Pain fills the gap so often left by
a purely anatomical or surgical approach." - Oliver Sacks, M.D.
"Healing Hip, Joint and Knee Pain is a gem of a book. It guides
individuals in making changes in their lives that contribute to their
whole being. The experiential illustrated exercises help the reader
learn new skills to promote self-healing." - Barbara Dossey, RB, MS,
FAAN
"Discussing 'moving back into your body' after surgery, coping with
damage to your physical self, and trusting your emotional and physical
structure, Kate O'Shea helps you to become a more active participant in
your health--and whole life." - Yoga Journal
