Muscle Energy Techniques This comprehensive text describes the basis and practice of Muscle Energy Techniques (MET), a widely recognized approach to treating musculoskeletal dysfunction. It describes those manipulative techniques in which a patient, on request, actively uses his or her muscles from a controlled position in a specific direction against a distinct counterforce applied by the practitioner. Although some may already familiar with MET, they are unaware of its many potential applications. These techniques are combined from methods used in physical therapy, osteopathy, chiropractic and manual medicine. A companion DVD includes the full text and video clips demonstrating the application of techniques. MET emerged initially from osteopathic tradition, but what has become clear is just how well it has travelled into other disciplines, with chapters in this book variously describing MET usage in chiropractic rehabilitation, physical therapy, athletic training and massage contexts. |

In this new edition, sections expanded incorporates
the latest research findings:
This third edition shows new research and new methods of using MET, it made the previous edition relatively out of date. The diligent research, much of it from Australia, that is outlined by Gary Fryer DO in Chapter 4, reveals mechanisms previously unsuspected, and this may well change the way muscle energy methods are used clinically.
