Fascial and Membrane Technique. A manual for comprehensive treatment of the connective tissue system. by Peter Schwind, PhD

The Fascial and Membrane Technique developed by Peter Schwind combines the fundamental thoughts from Ida Rolf´s Structural Integration with concepts of Osteopathy. With this a successful combination of form-stabilising and mobilising techniques has emerged. Due to this holistic approach the concept will appeal to all manual working therapists. The main emphasis of this book is on diagnostic and treatment of the breathing patterns manifest in the myofascial system; minimalistic as well as global application joint techniques; visceral techniques in the myofascial context; and special treatment techniques in the craniosacral area, eg for mandibular joint dysfunction, care of the upper jaw after implants and for the after effects of a whiplash injury.

Features: * Therapy from head to foot with descriptions of the anatomic correlations * The theoretical and practical principles are imparted in a clear way * Detailed, easily transposed instructions about treatments * Photographically documented movements

About the Author:

Peter Schwind studied structural integration therapy with Ida Rolf and has collaborated for years with the distinguished osteopath Jean Pierre Barral,. He introduces us to his form-stabilizing and mobilizing techniques as they apply to the outer and subdivisional layers of connective tissue with the parietal, visceral, and craniosacral regions. His discussions are accompanied by numerous clear photographs, and each procedure includes details of the patient's postition, the therapist's position, the contact points between patient and therapist, and a thorough description of the therapeutic action. Textual emphasis is on diagnosis and treatment of the breathing patterns manifest in the myofascial system, treatment using minimalist as well as global application joint techniques, visceral techniques in the myofascial context, and special techniques for the craniosacral area.

The author brings his clinical expertise, committment, curiosity, sensitivity, and perseverance to bear in this highly useful contribution to healing with manipulative therapy. We are reminded that the unitary matrix of the body's fascial structures, woven into our structure at the embryonic stage, communicates bodywide throughout life. In understanding the fascial and membrane technique, we can imagine the nerve as the river; the fasciae, membranes, and perineural envelopes as the riverbed. In order to ensure a better equilibrium of flow in the river, the therapist would treat the riverbed.
