Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians for Manual and Movement Therapists. 2nd Edition.

Understanding the role of fascia in healthy movement and postural distortion is of vital importance to bodyworkers and movement therapists. Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians for Manual and Movement Therapists presents a unique ‘whole systems’ view of myofascial/ locomotor anatomy in which the bodywide connections among the muscles within the fascial net are described in detail for the first time.

Using the metaphor of railway or train lines, Myers explains how patterns of strain communicate through the myofascial ‘webbing’, contributing to postural compensation and movement stability. Written in a style that makes it easy to understand and apply. Anatomy Trains provides an accessible and comprehensive explanation of the anatomy and function of the myofascial system in the body.

The second edition includes numerous updates including important new findings in recent fascial research, photos of the Anatomy Trains myofascial meridians dissected, new appendices on Structural Integration protocols based on the Anatomy Trains concept, and a comparison of the myofascial meridians with the meridians of acupuncture. The entire book is now in full color, including all new artwork from the prominent British anatomical artists Philip Wilson and Deborah Maizels, whose previous work was featured in the latest edition of Gray’s Anatomy. The new edition also benefits from new web links and includes an interactive DVD with animations of the Anatomy Trains lines, fascial release techniques, and dissection videos.

Reviews/Endorsements:

"Anatomy Trains champions a wider scope of the body and it's movement systems." -- Gray Cook MSPT, OSPT, CSCS, Developer of the Functional Movement Screen

"The Anatomy Trains metaphor is a revelation; a way of seeing the body's interconnectedness more clearly, offering new physiological and anatomical perspectives, and therefore different clinical choices. Quite simply the content of this book is revolutionary." -- Leon Chaitow ND DO, Honorary Fellow, University of Westminster, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Bodywork & Movement Therapies

“Clinicians, researchers and educators alike will find this an invaluable text, which leads to new insights on each reading.” -- Thomas Findley MD PhD, Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey; Editor-in Chief, International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Research, Education and Practice

Anatomy Trains is a 'longitudinal' myofascial anatomy, showing how the muscles are linked in series through the fascial webbing. Thomas Myers presents his theory on fascia connections in the human body. It also contains the most up-to-date statement of the topology and disposition of fascia in general. An accessible and comprehensive approach to the anatomy and function of the fascial system in the body combined with a holistic overview of myofascial therapy. Many different therapists now use myofascial techniques to influence postural change and pain relief. This book demonstrates exactly how the muscles connect within the connect tissue to affect posture, compensatory strain, and pain patterns. The aim is to present scientifically sound and often complicated material in a way which can be easily learned, understood, and applied by those who do not necessarily have a scientific background. ANATOMY TRAINS is written and presented in a style that allows this new information on the myofascial system to be easily absorbed by a wide range of readers: from the student, athlete, or client to the most experienced therapist.
