6 Questions to Carrie Rowell

1. When and how did you decide to become a bodyworker?

I have doing massage on anyone who would let me since I was 5 years old, but I went to massage school at the age 23, and have been self employed doing massage ever since, now over 10 years.

2. What do you find most exciting about bodywork therapy?

The chance to bring people to deeper awareness of their body.

3. What is your most favourite bodywork?

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, ever since I found it, it has been my favorite. I am now practicing as well as teaching it.

4. Which part of the body do you find the most challenging to work on?

The Feet.  It takes more effort from the hands and the body's mechanics to maintain and sometimes feet are the nastiest part of someone's body.

5. What advise you can give to fresh massage therapists who wish to make a career out of it?

Take classes to keep your work fresh, get enough bodywork for yourself. Pay attention to your body mechanics and breath.

6. How do you see the future of massage therapy?

It is slowly becoming more accepted as a means of maintaining health not just a luxury item.  I would like to see more people turning to massage for recovery from injury and surgery and not just a relaxing treat every now and then.
