to Richard Gold
1. When and how did you decide to
become a bodyworker?
I began my studies of Chinese Medicine in
1977, which included techniques of Tui Na, Chinese bodywork. I
was ‘called’ to these studies: it was not based on a rational,
objective decision making process
2. What do you find most exciting about
bodywork therapy?
I most like and am excited by the potential
for deep, personal connection with my clients
3. What is your most favourite bodywork
book?
My favorite bodywork book is my own on
Thai Massage! I also like
Sensei Ohashi’s books very much
4. What is the most challenging
part of your work?
Having adequate time to serve all that come to
me for work/healing
5. What advise you can give to fresh
massage therapists who wish to make a career out of it?
- Take good care of yourself.
- Eat well, exercise, get healing work done
for yourself.
- Do not over-extend.
- Keep studying and be open to new ideas
and practices.
6. How do you see the future of massage
therapy?
The field of massage therapy will continue to
grow and play an increasing role in conventional health care,
especially in prevention and stress management.

Dr. Richard Gold is the author of the Best
Selling Thai Massage book, he is also
the instructor in the most comprehensive
Mastering Thai Massage DVD.
Dr. Gold graduated from Oberlin College with a BA Degree in
World Religions. He graduated from New England School of Acupuncture in
1978. Since then he has devoted himself to studying, practicing and
teaching oriental medicine. He has participated in advanced studies in
Shanghai, China, and studied Shiatsu in Osaka, Japan in 1986. He holds a
Doctorate in Psychology. In 1989 Dr. Gold graduated from the program in Nuad Bo-Rarn at the Old Medicine Hospital, the Foundation of Shivago
Komparaj, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Currently he is a senior instructor
and member of the Board of Directors at the International Professional
School of Bodywork (I.P.S.B) in San Diego, and also the Pacific College
of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, and the Pacific Institute of Oriental
Medicine in New York City.
